ATP Rating

The helicopter ATP (Airline Transport Pilot) rating is the highest rating you can achieve within the helicopter industry.

Requirements

Your ATP rating qualifies you to fly helicopters up to 12,500 lbs. (Aircraft over 12,500 lbs will require an additional rating.) With your ATP rating, you’ll be more competitive in the job market as a career helicopter pilot, able to safely fly passengers and cargo to the highest commercial standards. The ATP rating may include a higher pay scale or bonus as it exemplifies the highest standards, certification and professionalism.

  • Read, write, understand, and speak English
  • Be at least 23 years old
  • Hold a Commercial Pilot License with instrument rating
  • Hold a current FAA Medical Certificate
  • Complete minimum 1,200 hours of flight time with at least 200 hours in helicopters and 75 hours PIC in helicopters
  • Complete 500 hours cross-country PIC flight time
  • Complete minimum 75 hours of actual or simulated instrument time with at least 50 hours in flight and 25 hours PIC in helicopters
  • Pass FAA ATP knowledge test
  • Pass an FAA ATP Practical Exam
